Teacher Joey obtained her ABRSM grade 8 piano in the year of 2002 and her grade 8 theory in 2003. Thereafter she achieved her ATCL diploma in piano performance with distinction in the year of 2010.
Teacher Joey has great passion in teaching piano and is very patient in teaching young kids, she has helped many students to pass their piano exams successfully with flying colours, and has started to teach individual piano lessons since year 2009 till now, with a total of 6 years of piano teaching experience. Currently her highest graded student is grade 8. Two of her grade 7 students who have recently passed their piano exam, one with a good pass and another one with merit.
Teacher Joey has very good and motivating methods in teaching young kids and beginner students, the materials that she uses for beginners piano lessons are award winning music books called ‘Piano Adventures’ series by Faber, suitable for children age 4 and above, along with other pieces such as folk tunes that are popular among the music students.
On top of that, she also encourages students to learn exam pieces from ABRSM publications when they progress well and ready to take the piano exams.
Ms Wen Yan
Qualification
Ng Wen Yan started learning the piano since the age of 4 and the viola since the age of 12. Since then, she has obtained a Grade 8 (ABRSM) in Viola Performance and LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music) in Piano Performance.
Experiences
Wen Yan has been performing for various formal and informal occasions such as school concerts, masterclasses, wedding gigs, and for performances in the Esplanade Recital Studio and Esplanade Concourse since 2011.
She has performed as a soloist on the viola and mostly on the piano, as an accompanist for music examinations (A-level, O-level, school music examinations etc.), masterclasses, competitions and choirs, in chamber groups, in ensembles and in orchestras. She has also taken part in competitions such as the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation as the Principal Violist of the Dunman High School String Ensemble (DHSSE). In 2017, DHSSE obtained the Certificate of Distinction.

Teaching Experience
After receiving her certification from LaSalle College of the Arts, Esther discovered her affinity with young children and joined Yamaha Music Asia, specializing in the Junior Music Course (ages 4 -9).
To date, Esther has taught more than 70 individual students and these students have all attained exemplary results in the ABRSM certification.
Esther has also trained students to prepare for the Lasalle / NAFA entrance audition. She guided students in playing skills, composing and listening comprehension.
Esther moved to US with her family from end 2015 to early 2018. She experienced teaching in a different learning culture during her time there.
Teaching Methods
Esther understands that each student is different and customizes each lesson to prepare them for the ABRSM certification or musical needs.
Lessons are normally between 45 mins (for ABRSM grades 1–4) to an hour (for ABRSM grades 5–8). Each lesson entails a warm-up session, repertoire and theory. Light home work will be given at the end of each lesson to help the students practise their newly acquired techniques before the next lesson.
To allow parents to easily monitor their children’s development, Esther provides a progression report after each lesson.
Availability
Esther is available to travel to students’ homes in the Bishan, Upper Thomson or AMK area. She has a piano studio in Bishan.
