Congratulations to our students who scored distinctions for their recent AMusTCL music theory exam which was held at Lifelong Learning Institute Singapore. In this blog I discuss the question five analysis question. I have chosen Beethoven trio Sonata from the set works and the following question was asked.
Do a comparison on first phrase and entrance of another phrase in section 1 of this Sonata, candidates can make a comparison according to some keywords like melodic shape, rhythmic patterns, texture of the parts writing, harmonic progressions and accompaniment patterns. State the key and modulations for the beginning phrase of the development section in this sonata, and give a reason to support our statement.

Another question is to play a hide and seek game and mark out the following musical ideas in composition:
- Imitations
- Auxiliary notes
- Passing notes and passing notes and Cadential 6/4 chord progression.
The questions are pretty manageable according to our students, hence they scored almost full marks for this section. We have also done a full preparation to study and analyze the score in details before going for the exam, so they were very well prepared and confident when they sat for this exam. Bravo!!
