Our theory and piano student Oliver Lim has won an award with his very own composition ????. The melody was written by Oliver himself while the lyrics was written by his friend Tan Hui Xin. It has been officially listed as one of the new generation Xin Yao songs.
Xin Yao is unique to Singapore and it is also known as Singapore Songs. It is popular in the 1980s and has launched many careers of famous Singapore singers such as Liang Wen Foo.
Through this song, Oliver hopes to remind us that in our modern society we tend to forget the well being of our parents. He wanted to show appreciation to our parents sacrifice and dedication, without which we will not be what we are today.
The song consists of 3 sections. The opening section introduces the main melody theme, with long lyrical melody. The middle section is development section where Oliver introduces a new theme and new rhythmic ideas. In the last section the main theme is reintroduced and a small coda section is introduced before going back to tonic note. The song was written in A major key and is in ternary form.
