Kids are too young to manage their time to complete school work, study for school and arrange home practice session in their daily routine.
As a piano teacher, we can advice parents how frequently should the child practice when they are aiming to pass their piano exam within certain time frame because the parents are familiar with the kid’s dairy routine and amount of task they need to complete from school, so good communication between teacher and parents will help to accelerate the kid’s progress in piano skills.
Teacher should advice frequency of home practice so that the parents can help to supervise them at home. For example, a first-grade piano student should practice at least three 15-minute sessions weekly at home.
After mastering the first exam piece, the teacher may introduce a second piano piece, and we might suggest increasing each home practice session by 10 more minutes. We’ll gradually increase practice time depending on the child’s attention and progress. The length of the child’s home piano practice is at the teacher’s discretion, considering the child’s abilities and patience.
Parents understand the kid’s characteristics during their study time, so it is important for piano teacher to discuss with parents what approach best suits the kids when they encounter difficulties in piano lessons.
Piano teachers should tailor their teaching methods, activities, and music selections to each child’s interests and abilities, in consultation with parents. Piano teachers need to consider parental feedback on practice habits and adapt their teaching methods.
Above are three crucial factors in helping children improve their piano skills. Crucially, close work with parents ensures the best approach for each child’s individual learning style.
